Office Visit in New York City

Unlike visits in suburban areas where you can park by the doctor's door, visiting Leder Chiropractic in New York City often requires that you take a train, subway, bus, or cab to arrive at his office. You might even decide to walk several blocks (not unheard of in New York).

With that in mind, make sure that you treat your body gently while in transit. This means walking with assistance, or use a wheeled-cart to carry your heavy stuff. Slinging backpacks, gym bags, book bags, heavy purses, or shopping bags over your shoulders not only will hurt you prior to your arrival, lugging these things back home will definitely undo the good of your treatment.

Roll your heavy stuff; don't sling it over your shoulders!

Preparation

If whatever is bothering you has happened before and you think you are prone to having a bad back, knees, ankles, or hips, then make a point of never putting excess pressure on your body. Instead, use leverage (or wheels) to lighten your burdens whenever possible.

We recommend owning a folding cane or collapsible trekking poles for use when needed. These are light-weight, store easily, and can be carried unobtrusively when no longer needed (such as after a treatment).

Also own one or more rolling carts. These include foldable-shopping carts (some of which fold into a handbag-sized pouch) and shopping trolleys. They are especially useful for people who habitually travel with heavy loads, such as with a stuffed gym bag, the evening's groceries, a handbag that doubles as a suitcase, a briefcase, or a courier-bag filled with electronic gadgets.

Going Home

After your visit to Leder Chiropractic, you will definitely feel better (especially if you don't plan on lugging your possessions back home with you). That treatment and your feelings, however, are just the beginning of your healing process.

If possible, plan on relaxing after your session rather than, say, stopping at the gym, or going grocery shopping (yes, people do this). Remember, even if you feel great, your body is still responding to DNFT adjustments, which means by the end of the evening, if you don't relax, you could feel a little sore.

The Next Day or So . . .

A highly productive adjustment is one that corrects problems that developed over a long time. Sometimes a highly productive adjustment can make you feel sleepy. If this is your experience, we encourage you to lay down when you get home. If you feel tired the next day, continue to relax. This definitely speeds healing.

Under all circumstances, analyze your movements, such as those you make when sitting, standing, walking, and leaning. By avoiding what causes your problems, you'll experience more healthful living.

Fine Tuning

Dr. Leder will help you identify how to correctly move based on observing the tissue-deep nature of your problem and your behaviors. Upon request, he'll also make suggestions on diet and nutritional supplements.

Consider bringing photos or videos to the office of you in positions that you think might be causing problems. Photos or videos of how you move in a chair, for example, might reveal answers, as well as photos or videos on how you walk under load (you know, when walking with a backpack, heavy purse, or shopping bags, etc.)
